SEARCH Citysearch Web

Sophisticated though it is, San Francisco is still a city of neighborhoods. Likewise, many first-rate restaurants are found in quieter corners of town. Let the cursor be your guide through the neighborhoods of San Francisco; you'll find lists of our favorite eateries in each.

Hungry? You've come to the right place. Our guide is the result of many months of research, and draws upon many writeups from Sidewalk.com as well as those from our own database.

The guide is fairly straightforward. On each neighborhood's page are three headings: high-end, mid-range and bargain. Because Bay Area citysearch.com doesn't use a star rating system, you'll find our top picks arranged alphabetically rather than by preference.

A note on classifications
The high-end, mid-range and bargain classifications are intended more as rough groupings than as strict guidelines. The idea is to let you know what to expect in terms of service, decor and price relative to other restaurants in the neighborhood, rather than relative to all restaurants in the city. (That's why a $15-a-plate restaurant falls under high-end in the Richmond but mid-range in the Financial District.)
