Things To Do In San Francisco

Girls Night Out

A night out with your S.O. is nice, but it's no match for an evening with the girls. Gather your gal pals and hit one of these fun spots for everything from a quick after-work drink to an all-night bash that carries over to Sunday mimosas.

5 to Try: Southern Food

Just as it's hard to find an organic vegetarian restaurant in rural Georgia, it's not an easy task finding solid Southern cuisine here in SF. And while chitterlings and pigs' feet may not regularly grace any local menus, we've got a smattering of decent spots for fried chicken and catfish, mac 'n' cheese, collard greens, cornbread and the like--try our top five.

5 to Try: Fried Chicken

Until recently, if you were eating fried chicken, that meant scarfing down four-legged mutant poultry out of a big red bucket. But as high-caliber chefs have taken on the finger-lickin' everyman food--using organic, free-range birds and foodie-grade batter and spices, of course--fried chicken is showing up on the menus of some the city's top restaurants; here are our top five.

T.G.I.M.: Amazing Monday Night Specials

You probably stay in on Monday nights doing laundry, watching football, and generally licking your wounds from the weekend (we definitely do). However, if you're feeling the squeeze right now, but don't want to give up going out to eat (we absolutely are, and don't), these Monday specials make it the best to do so. Sorry we can't do anything about Monday morning.

Battle Grounds: SF's Coffee Wars

The "fro-yo wars" got all the headlines in '08, but the battle for dominance amongst SF's boutique roasters has been quietly raging too. Blue Bottle's got the clear lead, but Mission favorite Ritual is muscling in on some prime real estate, while upstart Four Barrel is now roasting 14 blends in-house, and with a passionate following, may look to create and empire of its own.
