Editorial Review for Blondie's Bar & No Grill – by Erika Stalder

The Scene
Dark walls, exclusive banquettes and European streetside seating evoke opulence and intrigue--a fitting homage to the bar's signature drink: the martini. A slick, mixed crowd of party people stop to tip slim-stemmed glasses, shoot pool and pose, while weekend DJs stir hip-hop and dance beats.

The Draw
A seemingly endless martini menu takes drinkers light-years beyond the shaken-not-stirred-know-how of James Bond. Choices range from a chocolate mint to a standard gin 'tini with spicy sausage and blue cheese garnish. Thankfully, exotic choices don't mean small servings (each drink is a tall 16 ounces) and careful presentation guarantees a sharp-looking cocktail to match the crowd. A second bar in the back room opens on weekends to satisfy high demand.

Parking

To play it safe, try the garage at Hoff and 16th streets.

Know Before You Go

Blondie's dancefloor is filled with bump-and-grinders on weekends and occupied by a pool table on weekdays.

Stopped on a Monday night. The place wasn't too busy but had a great atmosphere. Not too ritzy but not a dump either, great place to relax and have a martini and listen to great music. I hope to see better bands occaisonally on the weekends but great acoustic and electric rock. Highly recomend!

I went to Blondies a few times several years ago, and went back this weekend. I was surprised how little it has changed, and that's the best news. I have never had anything less than a great time at Blondies. The DJ is always spinning something fun to dance to. The bar was crowded, and my slim cosmo was a hefty $11, but unlike most bars I got a refill pint along with my martini glass, so it was like two drinks in one. The crowd is young and cheerful and determined to have a good time. The staff is friendly, the bouncers are quick to act on any disputes, and the cover is a modest $5. It's not too posh and it's not too skanky - a nice comfortable let-your-hair-down let's-groove-tonight place.

Pros: good music & martinis, fun crowd

Cons: limited seating, small dance floor
