Editorial Review for Tommy's Mexican Restaurant – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
At night, boisterous 20- and 30-somethings fill the red vinyl booths and a small bar gets crowded quickly. With fresh ingredients and the best selection of tequila this side of the Rio Grande, Tommy's makes a mean margarita. The vast Mexican menu includes combination platters as well as Yucatecan specialties like poc chuc (broiled pork served in roasted tomato sauce).

Stepping into Tommy's Mexican restaurant is like stepping into a Robert Rodriguez film. You feel that at any moment a gun slinging buckaroo is going to mosey on in and say, "I have traveled a hundred miles for the best tequilas in the world, and you're gonna give it to me" If the too-many-too count tequilas don't get you, then the margaritas certainley will. You then have no choice of succumbing to the ultra-delicious homemade food , but that's life.
Pros: MAR GA RITA. Addictive Food
Cons: There's only one, and its way out close to the beach, but so what, just go to the beach after

Tommy's is an acquired taste. If you don't have that level of taste, you just don't get it. That's okay, more room for those of us who do. This restaurant is run by a family who has put their heart and soul into it over four decades. If you want a trendy, snooty place, this is not it. If you want a place that takes care of you and the less fortunate in their neighborhood and worships across the street at St. Monica's, come on in! It is a San Francisco institution and has the best tequila bar and best family running it. A real "work seven days a week and give your kids a better life" kind of ethic. That is what you need to be able to appreciate while you are having authentic food from the Yucatan and the best tequila anywhere.
